I want to make a quilt like the mom does in stepmom. HELP!!?

You know at the end of stepmom when the mom gives the daughter the quilt with the pictures of them on it? I want to make that for my mom for christmas. Where do I start? I have the pictures I wanna use and I have some muslin. I bought the paper to iron on pictures to the fabric. Whats my first step? Any help will be appreciated.
