Clomid, I'm not sure what to do?

My husband and I tried for abut 8 months to get pregnant with no success before he went on deployment he is to return at the end of this month. And I spoke with my doctor about prescribing me clomid he said he wont until we try for one year non stop. Heres the thing it isnt realistic for us he is constatly leaving on military orders. I havw been told I can buy it online but how safe is that? And can my dr really tell me no?
