16 month old with a cold? What to do?

What can I do for him? Dr said no meds til 2 years old and I dont really want to push the issue with medication. I tried the cool mist vaporizer all night. Didnt help. Suctioned his nose. Didnt help. Still very congested and a bad cough n sneezing. This all started just yesterday n he didnt get much sleep last night. What can I do to help the poor guy?
